Sewerage Management Plans (SMPs)

Clear has assisted various water companies in developing the Sewerage Management Plan approach to Drainage Area Planning. This has involved aligning modelling and catchment planning specifications with the Common Framework (CFCMP) and SRM5, based on asset performance and risk assessments. This is beginning to lead to a significant shift change within DAPs, particularly in terms of risk based approaches to identifying and prioritising flooding and pollution needs within a catchment.

Through this we have developed a number of tools in MapBasic that allow InfoWorks sewer performance predictions to be presented as flood and pollution risk indicators, taking into account the consequence of system failure, rather than simple performance indicators. This will allow water utilities to prioritise interventions based on overall risk, and feed into high level strategic business planning tools.

Clear are also involved in initial attempts to develop a live model maintenance procedure with various WCs. Rather than undertaking model maintenance when the model is required to assist with significant capital investment, this approach has developed protocols to trigger regular model maintenance as soon as significant changes in the catchment have occurred, allowing a stock of up to date network models to be available on a live basis. This allows continuous risk and prioritisation assessments to be undertaken, so that sewerage operational and capital interventions can be programmed with confidence, based on a continuous stream of up to date input and output data.
