Wind Farms
Due to rising energy prices and the resultant search for alternatives, there are now thousands of wind farms in many countries around the world. There is still a lot of controversy surrounding the pros and cons of wind power and its local impact. Clear Environmental Consultants specializes in ecological, flood risk and detailed drainage design services in relation to wind farm developments.
By necessity, on-shore wind farms are usually located within environmentally sensitive areas and consideration must be given to the potential impacts of development on the local hydrology, hydrogeology and water quality within local water courses.
Clear provides the technical expertise and detailed understanding of these issues to fully assess the impacts of proposed wind farm developments. Key requirements are the drainage of surface water runoff from access roads, turbine bases and substation buildings to manage the volumetric runoff and the water quality impacts of this drainage.
From experience, the construction phase provides the highest risk of contaminated runoff that could enter sensitive local watercourses or groundwater and cause pollution or discoloration due to sediment transportation. We have experience of designing effective low-cost sustainable drainage solutions that have been adapted to wind farm developments with a particular emphasis of dealing with construction phase activities.
